Sounds and Visions of Caravaggio
A fabulous experience of different art forms awaits you on Saturday mornings.
You will begin with a guided tour in English of the Palazzo Doria Pamphilj, one of the most prestigious ancient art galleries in Rome, where you will be able to admire some of the works of the best representative of Baroque painting in Rome: Michelangelo Merisi, better known as “Caravaggio”. Among his works we might highlight Maddalena Penitente (The Penitent Magdalene) or La Fuga in Egitto (Rest on the Flight into Egypt). The gallery also exhibits a wide collection of paintings, sculptures, and artworks by artists of worldwide renown, such as Raffaello, Tiziano, Bernini and Velazquez, among others.
During the gallery visit, the artistic delights will be present also in musical form, thanks to the music performed on original instruments in the different halls, which makes the tour in the Palace really special. The visit ends in the beautiful Jupiter Hall, with a magnificent Baroque final concert.
The musicians and the soprano of the ensemble will perform works by Frescobaldi, Monteverdi, Falconieri, Sanz and Arañes, on the same instruments as those used in the time of Caravaggio and which also feature in many of the artist’s paintings (flute, percussion, theorbo, Baroque guitar).
